John Jacob Bragonier;  son of Abraham Bragonier (1798-1859) & Elizabeth (Wingard) Winger (1795-1867); John was born on 03 Jul 1836 in Deer Creek Township, Carrol County, Delphi, Indiana, died on 28 Dec 1897 in Delphi, Carroll County, Indiana.  John Jacob married 1st on 18 Apr 1865 to Sarah A. Halsey (1843-1879, no children) John Jacob married 2nd Lillie M. Boyd on 17 Nov 1885. (1862-1959 one child);  Sallie (Sarah) was involved in the Odd Fellow's organization.

     Eva married John Young, one child Dorothy Young.  John Young died on 28 Dec 1911


The 1860 Indiana Federal Census lists Elizabeth Bragunier, aged 66, born in PA & John J Bragunier aged 24 born in Indiana & living in Carroll County, Deer Creek Township Indiana sharing a farm with John's older brother Samuel.  As per BBR page 11;

John J. Bragunier private, enlisted Sept. 18, 1861, aged 25 from Delphi, Carroll County Indiana.  Discharged on Feb. 3, 1863 at Nashville, Tenn. for disability.  Wounded right forearm at Munfreesboro July 1862 and left at Nashville.  There was a pension request made.  In 1867 he shared a farm with brother Samuel, then acquired all the interest in this joint farm on September 21, 1867.  He rented out the farm and lived in town, (Delphi Indiana) where he became an undertaker.

In the 1870 census John was listed as a farmer in the home of Elizabeth Halsey, aged 40, the mother of his first wife.

John was a member of the Indpendent Order of Odd Fellows, Delphi Lodge #28 founded on February 13, 1846.  John J. was elected to the office of Noble Grand in September 1869.  He was elected HP March 15, 1872 and CP on December 20, 1872.  John J. held Treasure of chapter #28 in 1881-1882.  The Deardorff family was also in the Odd Fellows, Lodge #79.  A new brick Temple was dedicated April 26, 1881.
