The Beckner book published in 1996 (BECKNERS in America The First 250 Years) attempts to establish their family progenitor as John Nichol Beckner Sr who arrived on the Ship Lydia from Rotterdam but last from Dover; Qualified September 27, 1740.  Take a look below at some of the "Facts" I came across during my family research!

It is noted in several Bragunier/Brogunier/Procunier genealogies The Bragunier Family in America ALSO Bragonier-Brockunier & Procunier by Brittian Bragunier Robinson 1969 & The Bragonier Family by Georgiana Randall 1969 & the Manuscript by Mr. Reginald Bragonier (Alexandra, Virginia) that he compiled for his uncle Fred T. Bragonier (Tucson, Arizona) by the Reverend A. Stapleton (author of Memorials of the Huguenots in America 1901) ...

THAT SOME of Johan Nichol Peckoner Sr's children moved to Virginia (ie: John N Peckoner Jr) but several remained in         Maryland (ie: Henry Bragonier, Jacob Bragunier & Peter Brockunier Sr).

Above ... The captain lists John & John Jr's surname as Peckoner; ages 36 & 15 accordingly. 

However above when John took his Oath of Alleiance his name was spelled Boeckener in the records by a ship's mate.

Now let’s take a look below at a Xerox copy of the ship Lydia's log at the signatures by the passengers themselves; (Lists 76 B - C); notice the spelling of Johan Nichol Peckoner.  It looks like Johan signed his last name beginning with a "B" and either being Brockunier or Boeckener as listed on the Oath of Allegiance.  

This blow-up (above) of Johan's signature in the ship Lydia's log clearly looks like Johan used a "B" as the first letter in his last name & not a "P".  Keep in mind that Johan lived in Germany and as it is known that in the English translation the "P" sounds much like the "B" and was often confused resulting in some immigrants’ surnames changing from a P to a B in spelling their respective surnames.

But clearly the signature is not Beckner as the Beckner book suggests; nor anywhere in the ships log, including the captain’s log is the surname spelled Beckner!

I guess the same could be said for the way I spell Johan's surname.  It is spelled Peckoner in the captain's log and I spell it the same way in my research but my lineage spell's it Procunier & Procuniar respectively; & one could say how do you get Procunier out of Peckoner?
